america's ballet school

Thank you for your interest in America ’s Ballet School.

Whether or not a dance career is planned, we are dedicated to give every student the best training possible and to bring to the community the art of dance

America’s Ballet School’ s program was designed to provide an increasing variety of special classes, as pointe, character, classical variations, stretch/strength, Pilates, partnering, modern and flamenco; but always taking classical ballet technique as the base.

Classical Ballet is a performing art that enriches our spirits. Communicating through movement, and the evocative language of ballet to express yourself, is a wondrously and original experience. Classical Dance style was handed down from Jean Georges Noverre through Carlo Blasis to Enricco Cecchetti ( Italian School ) and from Noverre through Johansson and August Bournonville to Gerdt and Legat ( French School ). Also the terms ballet and classical dance refers to the carefully studied analysis by Vaganova who is best remembered for her pioneering work in establishing the world-famous Soviet ballet syllabus. The renowned virtuosity of twentieth-century Russian ballet dancers is directly attributable to the system she created.

The syllabus of America ’s Ballet School is based on the classical Russian tradition and is enhanced by contemporary dance forms and ideas, to enrich the life of our young dancers by providing great teachers, choreographers and professional performing opportunities that will leave them with wonderful memories for years to come.

The best training: Classical Ballet as a Base

ABS as a professional Ballet School concentrates on classical curriculum until the fundamentals have become solidly fixed within the muscle memory of the nervous system. Our goal is to establish a foundation of solid, secure ballet technique.

The opportunity to watch and share the stage with professional ballet dancers gives the students the inspiration needed to sustain years of training. One valuable aspect of studying at ABS is the opportunity to gain stage experience in works created specially for them. Performing improves coordination and sharpens one’s mind; it also instills confidence, discipline and determination.

Ballet Etiquette

1. Always arrive on time.
Arriving late disrupts the class, and causes you to miss vital technique.

2. Never chew gum in class.
This is dangerous and distracting.

3. Always have your hair pulled out of your face.
Contributes to the development of self-discipline and attention to detail, attributes that are essential in the making of an artist. In classical ballet, the line of the neck and the carriage of the head are very important.

4. Don’t use jewelry during class.
Small earrings are acceptable, but no other jewelry should be worn.

5. Do not talk while in class .
Talking disrupts the class and the teacher.

6. Always pay attention to your teacher.
Listen to what your teacher has to say, as you can benefit from what she or he tells your classmates as well.

7. Keep a positive attitude inside and outside of the studio .
Never make fun of your classmate’s mistakes. Learn from them instead. We want an ambience that says “It’s Ok to make mistakes”, even inevitable, but we can learn from them.

8. No eating or drinking during class time.
Food and drinks are easily spilled.

9. Always keep your hands and feet to yourself .
Focus on the class and pay attention to corrections given by the teacher to you and/or to others.

10. Always wear the correct attire.
Be responsible for your uniform.

11. Do not climb on the bars, or hang on them.

Patience , Discipline and Determination learned at the ballet studio can be applied to all future endeavors.
